I just got hit by a freight train of Jello.
If this short story was written far in advance of...of all this, it would have had the cultural resonance of Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery." As it is, it's a story of what is happening now. And it's devastating. Utterly devastating. The anguished, hopeless scream at the end of Hüsker Dü's "The Tooth Fairy and the Princess."
