The Desert Island Album List!

Nearly four years ago, apropos of nothing other than loving lists and music, I followed the lemmings who were posting their desert island albums. Perfect thing for me to do. For some reason, the number to reach (or limit oneself to, depending on your proclivities) was twelve. I couldn't limit myself to just twelve. I had to add an honorary mention list of eight more. It seems appropriate for me to expound on my list. But first, here's the top list, in kindasorta rough chronological order:

  • The Muppet Movie Soundtrack
  • Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits
  • R.E.M. - Out Of Time
  • Until the End of the World - Motion Picture Soundtrack
  • Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine
  • Skinny Puppy - Too Dark Park
  • Woody Guthrie - Library of Congress Recordings
  • R.E.M. - Automatic for the People
  • Pet Shop Boys - Very
  • The Disco Box
  • Rufus Wainwright - Want One

And the eight honorably mentioned albums, not in chronological order:
  • R.E.M. - Lifes Rich Pageant
  • Nirvana - In Utero
  • Descendents - Somery
  • Midnight Oil - Diesel and Dust
  • Midnight Oil - 10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1

Some quick notes: Looking over these albums, I realize that these are not necessarily my favorites of all time. Some I barely listen to anymore. So instead, consider these my most influential albums.

Also, suddenly I look at this and see perhaps one more album missing. We'll see if I decide to make this an uneven list of 21 albums. But otherwise, since the most recent album on this list was released in 2003, I don't think I'm missing anything since then.

Finally, I actually have expounded on some of these albums on Misplaced Apostrophe's. Some of my work has been done already, so I'll just link to them, unless I REALLY think I'm missing something essential when I expounded on them before.
