Inspired by Pose, which is one of the most brilliant and enjoyable shows I've ever seen.
Years ago, I was struck upside the head by a line I heard in a virtually one-woman show about Maria Callas: "You have to have a look!" (I even wrote about it.) And for years afterward, I got that look. Suspenders and (when more formal) bow tie to accompany a turn-of-the-century Americana look. Very hipster influenced.
As of right now, it doesn't really work for me anymore. Part of it is summer, part of it is a less formal feel toward life. I'm turning toward Hawaiian shirts, but also since I'm spending so much time at home and not in the presence of others, I don't really dress much. Right now, I'm sporting a hand-me-down navy t-shirt, gray workout shorts, and ankle socks. Yeah. Not dressing to impress, but who is there to impress, even?
The utter relaxation continues.
Oh, and about the inspiration from Pose? A show about the disenfranchised creating their own world so they can prepare for the real one they couldn't be a part of. And that includes dressing and acting the part in front of people they love and who will boost them when they succeed and read them when they don't. Me wearing Hawaiian shirts kinda reflects my blasé temperament nowadays, my tendency to drift toward enjoying life without putting too much energy toward it. A lack of ambition and energy. A kind of life kissed with nepenthe.
